TOWSON, Md - Heat and high humidity greeted the Tigers on their first day of pre-season practice on Monday afternoon. Nearly 100 players took part in the first workout of the pre-season which was held on the lower practice field.
Four newcomers took turns running the offense as sophomores Grant Enders and Leon Kinnard took center snaps, along with freshmen Price Litton and Connor Frazier.
Enders is a local product from Old Mill High School who transferred from Lackawanna Junior College while Kinnard is a Loyola Blakefield graduate who came to Towson from the University of Connecticut. A product of Providence Day School in North Carolina, Litton passed for more than 1,000 yards as a senior. Frazier, an All-State quarterback who led Damascus High School to a 12-1 record last season, passed for 2,099 yards and 23 touchdowns last year.
Junior wide receiver Tom Ryan, who caught 29 passes last season, looked to be in mid-season form as he made a number of catches despite who was playing quarterback.
One of the sidelights of the practice was the punting duel between two newcomers, freshmen R.J Peppers and Nick Russo. Peppers, a product of Leesburg (Va.) High School, and Russo, a graduate of Glenelg High School, each demonstrated the ability to punt the ball a long way. Peppers averaged 45.7 yards per punt last season while Russo earned second team All-State honors.
The Tigers will hold their second practice session on Tuesday afternoon.
