CENTREVILLE, Mass. – Senior Kacy Catanzaro of Towson University has been honored as the winner of the first Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Coaches’ Choice Award for the week ending January 15, it has been announced by ECAC officials.
A three-time All-ECAC first team selection on vault, Catanzaro led the Tigers to a first place finish at a quad meet at Ursinus College on Sunday. She helped the Tigers win the meet with a score of 190.300. Catanzaro earned the Coaches’ Choice Award by coming back strong after a tough performance on vault, the Tigers’ first event.
On vault, she slipped and landed on her face. However, she came back strong
and won the bars competition with a 9.80 score. On balance beam, she finished second with a 9.60 score. On floor exercise, Catanzaro finished third with a 9.65 score. Despite her problems on vault, she finished second in the all-around competition with a 36.90 score.
One of five seniors on the Tigers’ roster, Catanzaro needs only 27 points in the Tigers’ next meet to become the 43rd gymnast in school history to score 1,000 points.
The Tigers, who are 4-0 on the season, open their home schedule on Sunday, January 22 when they host William and Mary and the University of Alaska in the Towson Center at 1:00 p.m.
