BOCA RATON, Fla. – Playing its second match in two days, Towson dropped a 7-0 match to Florida Atlantic Tuesday after a come-from-behind 5-4 victory over Nova Southeastern on Monday.
“It was one of those matches that the final score doesn’t tell the whole story,” Towson Head Coach Doug Neagle said. “It was a tough match, but our girls fought hard and we certainly had some chances.”
Tiger sophomore Ariel Burke, who entered Tuesday on a six-match winning streak, ran into a tough opponent in Florida Atlantic’s Natasha Phillips and was defeated in straight sets 6-0 and 6-1.
Ayana Dow was the only Tiger to win a singles set against the Owls, winning the second set against Erika Mrazkova 7-6 (7-3). However, Mrazkova would win a singles point for the Owls by winning the first set by a score of 6-2 and winning 10-1 in a tiebreaker.
The doubles tandem of Dow and Lizana was effective for the second consecutive match. The duo defeated Cassie Bergeson and Natalia Tomaszewicz 8-4, recording the lone doubles victory for the Tigers.
Now 8-5 this season, Towson will next face Loyola March 28.
