TOWSON, Md. - Towson University's Department of Athletics has released the latest installment of its 2012-13 Points of Pride. The Points of Pride have been designed to highlight and represent the best of Tiger Athletics and will be updated on a monthly basis.

Academics:
The Tiger women's swimming and diving team placed in the top 10 Division I schools as a College Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All-America team for the first time in program history. With a cumulative team grade point average of 3.52 for the spring 2012 term, the Tigers tied for 10th with four other institutions.

• Sixty percent of Towson student-athletes had a grade point average of over 3.0 during the summer session of this year.

Field Hockey:
• Junior Kate Williams was selected to be the Colonial Athletic Association's representative for the NCAA Division I Student Athlete Advisory Committee. The committee cites its mission as working to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete well being, and fostering a positive student-athlete image.

Football:
• Sophomore running back Terrance West was one of three Tigers to be named to the Preseason All-Colonial Athletic Association football team, selected by the league's head coaches and media relations personnel. Joining West on the squad are senior defensive end Frank Beltre and senior safety Jordan Dangerfield. West was also named the Preseason CAA Offensive Player of the Year after rushing for 1,294 yards and 29 touchdowns last season.
• After orchestrating a stunning turnaround that culminated with a 9-3 record and a berth in the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs last season, the Tigers were voted the 2012 CAA Football favorites for the first time in school history at the CAA media day. The Tigers received 12 of a possible 22 first-place votes.
• The winner of the inaugural Jerry Rice Award as the top freshman in FCS football last season, West was named as one of 20 players to watch for the 2012 Walter Payton Award, given to the top player in all of FCS football. The sophomore is one of 12 players returning to the list from last season.

Men's Basketball:
• Members of the Tiger men's basketball team spent time this summer hanging out at the Special Olympics Summer Games, which were held at the Towson Center. Some 1,400 athletes from around the state took part, with 800 volunteers on hand to help run the event, including Towson men's basketball players Jamel Flash, Jerome Hairston and Kris Walden.

• Five current players on the men’s basketball team had a 3.67 GPA or higher this summer, helping the team to an overall summer grade point average of 3.37.

Men's Lacrosse:

Robby Zoppo was a team captain for the US Men's Under-19 Lacrosse Team that won the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) gold medal at the end of July. He scored two goals and added two assists during the tournament.

Women's Lacrosse:
• Recently graduated goaltender Mary Teeters was nominated for the prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year award. The award will be given out in October. The Woman of the Year award honors graduating female student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their college careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership.
