“We had our opportunities in this game but we just couldn’t finish them,” said Towson coach Michelle Webber. “I thought Heather played well today and she and Courtney Branco are developing some chemistry up front.”
Providence (5-2) jumped out to a 2-0 lead at 13:44 following goals from Steph Guglielmo and Henni Tietze.
The Tigers (0-7) made a 2-1 game as Jenney scored the first of her two goals on the afternoon. Branco started the play with a cross from the near side to the far post where Jenney poked it home.
The Friars added one more goal before the half as Caitlin Malone scored off a long shot from the top of the circle. Providence went into the half, leading 3-1.
Providence held a 6-1 advantage in shots in the first half and recorded seven of the half’s eight penalty corners.
The Friars scored the first three goals of the second half to take a 6-1 lead with 60:52 on the clock. Tietze scored her second goal of the game on a penalty stroke. Emma Mackie and Hillary Anderson each scored during that run by the Friars.
Jenney and Branco connected for the second time in the game at 64:27. On a long pass from outside the circle, Branco tipped the ball to Jenney who scored her fourth goal of the season. That made it a 6-2 game, which would prove to be the final score.
Towson out shot the Friars 10-8 in the second half and had eight penalty corners to Providence’s three corners.
Kathi Weidman made seven saves to earn the win in goal for Providence. Sophomore Tashani Dickson made six saves in the loss for the Tigers. Freshman Casi Neidigh made a defensive save for the Tigers.
Providence finished the game with a 14-11 edge in shots taken and a 10-9 advantage in penalty corners.
Towson returns to action on Friday, Sept. 21 when it hosts VCU at 6 p.m.
