TOWSON, Md. - The Towson women's tennis team returns to the court Friday, for a three-day tournament at the Bill and Sandra Moore Invitational, hosted by Navy.

"This is our third year at the tournament and Navy is always very strong," Towson head coach Doug Neagle said. "I know it's going to be tough, but I like that challenge."

Towson is led by a pair of juniors in Nani Lizana and Nisha Shah, who have played well in the early portion of the season. Shah and Lizana both enter the tournament with 1-1 records in singles play after their performances in the season opening Tiger Classic nearly two weeks ago.

Shah defeated Kelly Conroy of Mount St. Mary's in straight sets 6-3, 6-1, while Lizana topped Conroy's teammate, Samantha Pinchoff, 6-1, 6-2 at the Tiger Classic.

The Tiger Classic was also a memorable day for freshman Lorena Ferrer and senior Moriah Burke. The pair each recorded their first victory in a Towson uniform. Ferrer beat Renee Dean in come-from-behind fashion after losing the first set, 6-7. She took the second set 6-0 and won the match 10-5 in a third-set tiebreaker. Burke upended Jennifer Smith 6-3, 6-3.

"I think our training is going well and the girls are stepping up in their intensity," Neagle said. "Our team wanted to be pushed hard both individually and as a team, so I think they're really hungry to succeed."
