TOWSON, Md. - The Tigers hosted their second meet at Oregon Ridge Park this season Friday afternoon at the Towson Invitational 5K, cruising to a first place finish with 32 points. Mount St. Mary's finished second with 43 points while UMBC was third with 47 in the eight-team field.
"There were only 52 seconds between our No. 1 and No. 5 runners and I really like that," Towson head coach Roger Erricker said. "Emma Tobin ran a fantastic race and she was a difference maker for us."
Towson placed five runners among the top 11 finishers. Elizabeth Tauber finished second in 19:00.86, while Tobin was fifth in 19:19.20. Tobin's time was a new personal record.
In sixth place, sophomore Kara Bucaro continued her solid season with a time of 19:27.75, while senior Hannah McKenzie wasn't too far behind in eighth, clocking in at 19:38.05. Sophomore Ashley Simmons was 11th with a time of 19:52.02.
A pair of freshmen in Ali Coning and Karen Cohen both had personal records in the meet and finished 18th and 19th, respectively. Coning posted a finish of 20:35.63, while Cohen completed the course in 20:46.12.
The Tigers will not compete in another 5K until the ECAC meet on November 17.
The Tigers will next head to the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh next Friday.
