BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Running in a strong field, the Towson University cross-country team finished 19th of 39 teams in the brown division (6K) of the Paul Short Invitational on Friday at Lehigh University.
Elizabeth Tauber, the current Colonial Athletic Association Runner of the Week, was the Tigers’ top finisher as she placed 26th. Tauber’s time of 22:46 was just two seconds off her career best mark in a 6K event.
Senior Hannah McKenzie crossed the line with a time of 23:50, which put her in 97th place.
Sophomore Ashley Simmons and junior Emma Tobin each posted personal bests in the event. Simmons clocked a 23:55 and finished in 109th place while Tobin posted a time of 24:08 and finished 132nd.
"Ashley had a nice race for us," Towson head coach Roger Erricker said. "This is something that can motivate us for the rest of the year, absolutely. We can definitely learn from this and we know what we are capable of doing."
Another Tiger finished the race in under 24:30, as Kara Bucaro, (24:23) finished 153rd overall.
The Tigers will compete in another 6K race at the William & Mary Open on Oct. 13 starting at 11 a.m.
