COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior Kasie Nurko scored 2:55 into the overtime session to lift the Towson University field hockey team to a 3-2 victory over UC Davis in College Park, Md. Friday afternoon. The Tigers (1-13) earned their first victory of the year after erasing a 2-0 deficit in the second half.

"I'm extremely excited and pleased to get the win today," said Towson coach Michelle Webber. "Our girls battled hard throughout the game and it's nice to see them get the results."

In the seven-on-seven overtime period, UC Davis (6-8) recorded the first shot as Nadia Namdari took a hard shot at the goal but sophomore Tashani Dickson was able to make a big save. The Aggies were awarded a penalty corner following the play but the shot went wide. The Tigers cleared the ball to midfield and it was on the stick of sophomore Courtney Branco.

Branco hit Nurko with a pass and the senior took the ball into the offensive end. Nurko was able to beat goalkeeper Danielle Harrington on the far side for the game-winner.

The Tigers forced overtime with a strong second period of action. Trailing 2-0 to start the second stanza, the Tigers pressured the ball into the offensive end. Towson broke through on the scoreboard at 53:14. Senior Megan Penza passed the ball into the far side of the circle where freshman Heather Jenney was able to tip the ball home. Jenney's goal was her team leading sixth of the year.

UC Davis maintained its 2-1 advantage until 67:02 as the Tigers were awarded a penalty stroke. Sophomore Kelsey Fielder converted the stroke to tie the game at 2-2.

The Aggies scored both of their goals in the first five minutes of the first half. Cloey LemMon tipped in a pass from Jamie Garcia to give UC Davis a 1-0 lead at 3:10. UC Davis added to its lead at 4:38 as Garcia scored on a penalty corner.

Towson pressured hard as the first half progressed and finished the first half with an 8-6 advantage in shots.

The Tigers finished the game outshooting UC Davis 19-17 while both teams had nine penalty corners.

Dickson made seven saves to earn her first career victory in goal. Harrington also finished with seven saves in the game.

The Tigers look to make it two wins in a row on Sunday afternoon when they travel to American for a 1 p.m. game.
