ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Towson women's tennis team opened play in the Blue and Gold
Invitational at Navy Friday.
After struggling through the doubles portion of the opening day of the tournament, the team battled back and won six of seven singles matches. The only singles loss of the day for the Tigers was by junior Nani Lizana, who was matched up with a tough Navy opponent.
Towson head coach Doug Neagle was pleased with the resilience of his team.
"We bounced back really nicely," Neagle said. "I told them that they acted the part and they played the part of big-time athletes today. It's one of the proudest moments I've had as a coach."
Moriah Burke, Ayana Dow, Nisha Shah, Andrea Samlin, Lorena Ferrer and Ariel Burke all recorded singles victories for the Tigers.
The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday in day two of the tournament.
