TOWSON, Md. - Highlighted by two home tournaments and games against Ohio State and Syracuse, the Towson University softball team has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2013 season.

On March 1-3, Towson will host The TU Invitational, welcoming Lehigh, Iona and Columbia. After a midweek matchup with George Washington on Wednesday, March 6, the Tigers host their second tournament of the season, The TU Classic, from March 8-10. Teams in attendance include Brown, Morgan State and Lafayette.

"This schedule is tough and competitive," Towson head coach Lisa Costello said. "I like that we play a lot of games early because it puts us in a great position to be ready for conference play."

The Tigers begin the season with East Carolina's Pirate Classic in Greenville, N.C. on Feb. 8-10. Towson will play five games, including matchups against Cleveland State (twice), Ohio, Rider and ECU. 

Towson will remain in the south traveling to Charleston, S.C., for the College of Charleston Classic from Feb. 15-17. Towson will face East Tennessee State and Syracuse starting at 10 a.m. on the tournament's opening day. On Feb. 16, the Tigers will play James Madison and Akron before wrapping up the series with a game against College of Charleston Sunday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. Syracuse finished last season with a 43-16 record and qualifed for the NCAA Regionals in Tempe, Ariz.

From Feb. 22-24, Towson will head to Boca Raton, Fla., for the Strikeout Cancer Tournament hosted by Florida Atlantic. After facing Connecticut and FAU on Feb. 22, the Tigers will face a trio of familiar foes in Northern Illinois, North Florida and Providence over the final two days of the tournament. The Tigers faced all three schools a year ago, compiling an even 2-2 record against them.

After returning to Maryland for a game at UMBC on Feb. 27, the Tigers will enjoy their longest homestand of the season with 11 straight games at the Tiger Softball Complex to begin the month of March.

After the home tournaments , Towson plays a doubleheader against the Hampton Pirates on March 13, before wrapping up the homestand against Ohio State on March 14. The Buckeyes were 31-23 overall last season.

After playing four games in the Carolinas against Presbyterian, Furman and UNC Greensboro from March 16-20, Towson will return home to open up Colonial Athletic Association play against James Madison on March 23-24 for a three-game series. The Tigers will then conclude their homestand with a game against Georgetown on Thursday, March 28.

On March 30-31, the Tigers will travel to Delaware to face the Blue Hens for a three-game series. Towson won two of three games between the teams last season.

A non-conference matchup against Mount St. Mary's (April 4) opens up the April schedule. The Tigers resume CAA play by hosting Georgia State on April 6-7 for three games and Drexel for another three-game set on April 13-14. Last season against the Dragons, pitcher Katie Lingmai threw the second no-hitter of her career.

The Tigers will play Delaware State in their last non-conference matchup of the season at home on Wednesday, April 17. 

The Tigers will play six of their final nine games on the road to conclude the season. A three-game series at UNC Wilmington kicks off the final stretch on April 20-21. 

Towson's home finale is a series against the George Mason Patriots on April 27-28. The Tigers swept the Patriots in a three-game series last year.

Towson concludes the regular season with a three-game series against defending CAA champion Hofstra May 3-4.
