TOWSON, Md. - Fresh off its first meet of the season Thursday night, the Towson indoor track and field team will travel to Princeton Sunday for the school's New Year's Invitational at Jadwin Gym.

The Tigers are coming off of a strong season debut in which they went 5-2 to begin the year at the Navy Lidlifter. Towson earned victories over American, Bowie State, Delaware State, Georgetown and Mount St. Mary's.

A number of young performers proved themselves ready for a collegiate meet, as the Tigers got notable performances from freshmen Kaitlyn Davis and Kelsey Fiddes in the sprints, Wilhelmina Austin and Emerald Vickers in the jumps and Jader Godsey in the throws.

Davis and Fiddes each broke into to Towson's top-10 all-time performance list in the 60-meter dash event. Davis ran the fourth-fastest time (7.93 seconds) and finished fourth overall. Fiddes entered Towson's list with an 8.07 second performance that ranks her seventh all-time at Towson.

For Vickers, her high-jump of 5' 5" also got her into the top-10 list for the event, tying her for 10th.

Austin was fifth in the long jump and seventh in the triple jump at Navy, while Godsey was the top finisher in the weight throw event for the Tigers.

"We had a lot of very good performances," Towson head coach Roger Erricker said. "But with a young team, a lot of our girls didn't know what it was like to compete at this level. Now, we can keep building with that experience."

However, a number of returners also were impressive in their season debuts.Sophomore distance runner Elizabeth Tauber finished second in the 5,000-meter run, whileseniors Kamilah Browne and Katie Salke were second and third, respectively, in the 60-meter hurdles.
