Towson Men’s Basketball Post-Game Notes from Win at Drexel

Towson Team Notes:

*With yesterday's win at Drexel, Towson improved to 7-8 overall and 2-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association. In their last three games, the Tigers have picked up road victories against Oregon State out of the Pac-12, UNC Wilmington and CAA Preseason favorite Drexel.

*Towson is riding its first three-game winning streak since the end of the 2009-10 season. The Tigers have also won three straight games that were all played on the road for the first time since Feb. 20-27, 1993 when they won games at UNC Asheville, Radford and UMBC.

*The win snapped Drexel’s 17-game regular-season CAA win streak, which was just one shy of the league record, set by George Mason.

*Towson won its first game at the Daskalakis Center since an 81-65 victory over the Dragons on Feb. 23, 2002.
Additionally, Drexel was 16-1 on its home floor a year ago.

*The Tigers are off to their first ever 2-0 start in conference play since joining the CAA prior to the 2001-02 season. Towson last opened a league campaign with two straight wins during its final year in the America East in 2000-01.

*Towson has led by at least 19 points in each of its CAA games thus far. The Tigers have also had significant halftime advantages, leading by 16 at UNCW and 14 at Drexel.

*The Tigers, who lead the CAA in field goal percentage defense (38.4), held the Dragons to just 28 percent shooting in the first half. Towson also scored the final 11 points of the opening period to go into halftime leading 32-18.

*
Towson has scored 69 or more points six times this season after not surpassing 69 points in any game last season.

*The Tigers once again struggled to score from the field in the final five minutes of the game. Against both Drexel and UNC Wilmington, Towson's final 12 points came from the free throw line.

*For the second straight game and the fourth time this season, the Tigers had four players score in double figures. Towson is 4-0 in those games.

*Towson, which held a 39-33 rebounding edge against Drexel, has beaten 12 of its last 14 opponents on the glass. The Tigers rank second in the CAA with +5.5 rebounding margin per game.

*The Tigers controlled the paint against Drexel, holding a 39-33 rebounding edge and a 26-10 advantage in points in the paint.

*Through 15 games, Towson has played 13 away from home. However, five of the Tigers' next six games will be played at the Towson Center, starting with William & Mary on Wednesday.

*The Tigers shot 27-for-38 (71.1%) from the free throw line on Saturday. That's the most free throws made and attempted by Towson this season. Prior season-highs in both categories occurred when the Tigers shot 21-for-33 against Eastern Kentucky on November 17.

*Towson and Northeastern are tied for first in the CAA as the only teams with a 2-0 mark.
