TOWSON, Md. – For the fifth consecutive year, Towson University will hold a Football National Signing Day Celebration. This year’s celebration will be held in the Minnegan Room on the third floor of the Field House adjacent to Johnny Unitas ® Stadium on Wednesday, February 6 at 5:30 p.m.

The Signing Day Celebration will precede the Tiger men’s basketball game against Delaware in the Towson Center Arena. Anyone attending the Signing Day Celebration will receive a complimentary ticket to the game which tips off at 7 p.m.

At the Signing Day Celebration, Coach Rob Ambrose and his football staff will announce their 2013 recruiting class. Each of the Tiger assistant coaches will take turns talking about the newest Tigers and a highlight video will be shown.

In addition, coaches from other sports will appear to talk about their recruiting.

For the Tigers, the 2013 Signing Day will demonstrate the progress that Coach Ambrose and the Tigers have made in four seasons. In the last two seasons, the Tigers have compiled a 16-7 overall record and won back-to-back Colonial Athletic Association championships. Towson has finished both seasons nationally-ranked and just missed back-to-back NCAA FCS playoff appearances.

During the 2011 and 2012 seasons, the Tigers have compiled a 13-3 record in CAA games. In 2011, the Tigers were 7-1 in the CAA as they claimed the outright CAA title. Last season, Towson won its final four games to go 6-2 and share the CAA title with New Hampshire, Richmond and Villanova and has a 7-1 record in CAA road games the last two years. The Tigers are also 16-4 in games played against NCAA FCS competition.

In 2012, Towson played the fourth-toughest schedule in NCAA FCS. En route to their 7-4 record, the Tigers faced two nationally-ranked FBS programs, Kent State and Louisiana State.

“National Signing Day is almost like Game Day,” says Coach Ambrose. “It is the culmination of months of preparation, hard work, research and evaluation.”

According to Ambrose, it is also one of the most satisfying days of the year.

“By the time it arrives, I feel ecstatic,” says the Tiger coach. “It is cause for celebration because we are adding student-athletes that have one thing in common – they want to be part of the football program we are building. They are committed to what we’re doing and they want to be part of it."

The Tigers could potentially sign between 15 and 20 newcomers on February 6. That number includes transfer students and players who are joining the program prior to the Spring semester.

The official web site for Tiger athletics, www.TowsonTigers.com, will serve as the official National Signing Day headquarters on February 6.
