STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Freshman Abby Griswold earned a 9.825 score on balance beam and a 9.70 on uneven bars as she led Towson University (1-3) to a 192.175 team score and a fourth place finish in a quad meet at Penn State on Saturday night.
The Tigers also vaulted well and earned a 48.325 team score. Sassa also led the Tigers on vault with a 9.775 score while freshman Lydia Thompson contributed a 9.725. Another freshman, Samantha Ward, earned a 9.70 score on vault.
However, the Tigers didn’t fare as well on bars and beam, earning 47.80 scores on each event.
Thompson led Towson on bars with a 9.725 score while junior Alexa Davis was the Tigers’ top performer on beam with a career best 9.85 score.
“This was a good meet for us against some strong competition,” said Coach Vicki Chliszczyk. “We were not intimidated by the surroundings and we performed like we belonged. With a team that is so young, it was good the way we performed. We just had a few silly mistakes and those mistakes kept us from making the meet even closer.”
The Tigers open their home schedule with a quad meet on Saturday, January 26 at 4:00 p.m. Towson hosts Bridgeport, Lindenwood and Ursinus in the Towson Center.
