NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Led by sophomores John Gartland and Jon Burr, the Towson men's swimming and diving team opened up the Shamrock Invitational in strong fashion Friday night at the Rolfs Aquatic Center on the campus of Notre Dame.

"We had a strong effort tonight," Towson head coach Pat Mead said. "We had many season-best swims for a number of our men."

Gartland had the team's top finish in the 100-yard breaststroke event, finishing ninth with a time of 59.56. Burr performed well in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.45 and the 200-yard freestyle with a result of 1:45.55. He was the top finisher in both events for the Tigers.
