RICHMOND, Va. - The Towson University softball team was picked to finish fourth in the Preseason Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) poll voted on by the league's head coaches.

The Tigers, returning six starters and 13 letterwinners, will be looking to improve on a 25-30 record last season. Towson received 28 points, just above Delaware's 25.

Hofstra, with 47 points and seven first-place votes, was picked to repeat as league champions, while Georgia State and James Madison were next in line with 40 points. The Panthers received the final first-place vote.

Drexel, George Mason and UNCW rounded out the poll in that order.

The Tigers welcome back a pair of second team All-CAA selections in sophomore shortstop Hailey Balk and senior pitcher Katie Lingmai. Balk finished the season with a .350 batting average with 57 hits, 24 runs and 26 runs batted in.

Lingmai had a historic season for the Tigers, as she became the program's all-time strikeout leader with 524 and WAS the only pitcher in school history to strikeout 200 or more batters in a single season. Lingmai fanned 203 hitters in 192.2 innings pitched.

The Tigers open their 2013 season on Friday, Feb. 8 at The ECU Pirate Classic.
