The Tiger women's lacrosse team opens the 37th season in program history and its 31st as a Division I program when the Tigers travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. for their opener.
Updating the Tigers
The Tigers are coming off one of the best seasons in program history. Towson was 16-4 overall and a perfect 7-0 in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play. The Tigers captured their fourth CAA title since 2005 and hosted an NCAA Tournament game for the first time in program history. The 16 wins, 10-game win streak and seven consecutive conference wins were all program records. The Tigers return 23 letter winners and eight starters from a year ago. Among the returnees are third-team IWLCA All-American Alexa Demski on defense and IWLCA All-Region pick Kelly Custer at midfield.
Scouting the Tar Heels
Friday's game is the second of the 2013 season for the Tar Heels. No. 5 North Carolina opened its season with a 5-3 loss to No. 3 Florida last week. Abbey Friend led the Tar Heels with a pair of goals in the game while Lauren Maksym made 10 saves against the Gators.
Towson-North Carolina Series History
Friday's game will be the fourth overall between the two schools. North Carolina has won each of the previous three meetings. The last time the two squads met was during the first round of the 2009 NCAA Tournament. The Tar Heels won that game 15-4.
