MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - After a strong showing at the 2013 Towson Invitational, the Tigers used that momentum to propel themselves to a team title at the Millersville Metrics meet on Saturday at Millersville University. Towson scored 153 points, while Millersville came in second with 107 and West Chester placed third with 89. The meet featured 20 women's teams.
"It was a nice meet because it was scored and it really brought the team together," Towson head coach Roger Erricker said. "It made everyone a bit more aware of what we were doing in other events and it was nice from that perspective."
An outstanding performance in the 5,000-meter run was the highlight for Towson, as Elizabeth Tauber and Ashley Simmons finished first and second respectively for the Tigers in the event. Tauber won the event in 18:03.40, while Simmons was the runner-up in 18:24.82.
Towson had season-best times in winning both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, as the Tigers also captured the gold in the 4x800 event. The team of Kelsey Fiddes, Kiera Joyner, Evan Campbell and Kaitlyn Davis paced the field in the 4x100, placing first in 48.48.
"Today was the first time in the 4x100 that we had three good exchanges," Erricker said. "That really made a difference for us."
Towson will continue its season at the Patriot Open hosted by George Mason next Saturday.
