Good morning Tiger Nation and welcome to the Morning Roar.

Let’s Unleash the Roar

In case you are not on twitter or any other form of social media then you may have missed the news that four former @Towson_FB players have been given the chance to play in the NFL. The NFL Draft came and went without any Tigers being selected, but immediately after the draft Jordan Dangerfield, Frank Beltre and Gerrard Sheppard signed with NFL franchises. Dangerfield signed with the Buffalo Bills, Beltre with the San Diego Chargers and Sheppard with the Baltimore Ravens. All three signed as undrafted free agents. Quarterback Grant Enders was invited to the rookie mini-camp to tryout for the Ravens. Congratulations to all four players for coming one step closer to achieving their dream of playing in the NFL. All four are great guys and will represent themselves and Towson in the best way possible!

During the off-season @Towson_MBB’s junior forward Marcus Damas has been keeping fans updated on everything that the Tigers have been doing. In the third installment of his blog, he tells fans about a typical day in the life of a Division I basketball star.

After having a blistering weekend at the plate, junior Kurt Wertz was named Co-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week. The DH hit .500 with seven hits in four games last week. In the weekend series against UNCW Wertz batted .444 with two doubles, a triple, a home run and drove in seven runs. On the season Wertz is hitting .306 with ten doubles, five triples and seven homeruns and leads the team with 38 RBIs. Wertz and the Tigers are back in action on Tuesday when they play Maryland at 4:00 p.m.

With each day that passes @TigerArena comes closer to competition. I had the opportunity to walk around the new building a week or so ago and I can tell you first hand that Tiger fans will be thoroughly impressed. Since the building is not yet open to the public the next best thing will be to take a look at the newest pictures of the building.

When the new building opens up one of the first games in the arena will be @Towson_WBB against Navy. It will give fans the chance to see the building and new head coach Niki Reid Geckeler. Reid Geckeler announced yesterday that she has filled two of her assistant coaching positions by hiring Brian Johnson and James Simmons. Both Johnson and Simmons served as assistant coaches with Reid Geckeler at Howard University. Johnson is not new to Towson, though as he coached under former Tiger coach Ellen Fitzkee from 1999 to 2001.

As I mentioned yesterday, @Towson_TFXC will be hosting the CAA tournament this weekend inside Johnny Unitas Stadium. If you can’t be here you can stay updated with live stats and a schedule of events on the Championship Central page.

Lax Time

On Wednesday, @Towson_MLAX will head to State College, Pa to take on Drexel in the CAA Tournament. The Tigers are coming off a win over Saint Joseph’s last Saturday evening. The Tigers and Dragons are no strangers and this will be the second time in three games the teams face off. Last time the teams met, the Dragons edged the Tigers 13-11. The long time “voice” of the Tigers Spiro Morekas takes an in-depth look into the match up in his blog, From the Broadcast Booth.

Thanks for reading another edition of the Morning Roar, be sure to check back the same time tomorrow for the latest. Also, follow me on twitter @ZachMaskavich.
