TOWSON, Md. - The Colonial Athletic Association champion Towson University women's lacrosse team will face Stony Brook University in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The game will be played on Friday, May 10 at 7 p.m. in College Park, Md.

The winner of Friday's match-up will advance to face No. 1 Maryland in the second round on Sunday, May 12.

"I'm really pumped for this team and these players to get out and compete on Friday," said Towson coach Sonia LaMonica. "If history is any indicator of what Stony Brook has been doing, we should be able to push them out of their sets defensively."

The Tigers (10-8), will be making their sixth appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2005 and second straight after capturing the CAA title on Sunday afternoon.

Friday's match-up will be the first ever for the Tigers against the Seawolves.

Towson enters the NCAA Tournament having won three straight games and nine of its last 10 contests. The Tigers used an 8-7 win over Drexel and a 9-4 victory over Hofstra to claim their second straight CAA title over the weekend. Towson is led by CAA Co-Player of the Year Ashleigh Rohrback, who has 19 goals and a team-high 30 assists this season. First team All-CAA selection, Rhiannon Coogle has contributed 41 goals and five assists for the Tigers. Second team All-CAA goalkeeper Kelsea Donnelly enters the NCAA Tournament with a 8.48 goals against average and a .456 save percentage.

Stony Brook, which was ranked 10th in the latest IWLCA poll, captured the America East Championship to get into the NCAA Tournament. The Seawolves (16-2) carry an 11-game win streak into the tournament. Demmianne Cook leads Stony Brook with 86 goals and six assists. Janine Hillier has posted 47 goals and 25 assists. Frankie Caridi has a 5.36 goals against average and a .543 save percentage.
