PHILADELPHIA, Pa. –  Coming off a 44-17 victory over Albany on Saturday, Coach Rob Ambrose and the Towson University football team is ranked eighth in the weekly FCS poll which was announced by The Sports Network.

The Tigers have been ranked in the NCAA FCS Top 10 for the last eight weeks.

The Tigers, who were ranked third in the nation until a 45-35 loss to No. 15 Villanova two weeks ago, bounced back with a convincing 44-17 victory over Albany. For the Tigers, who have won 11 of their last 12 games, it was their eighth consecutive win on the road dating back to the 2012 season.

Despite the win over Albany, the Tigers dropped one spot from seventh to eighth. A 31-23 upset win by No. 9 McNeese State over No. 2 Sam Houston State caused the shakeup in the Top 10. Sam Houston State fell to seventh in FCS while McNeese State moved up to fourth. Fordham also fell from eighth to ninth due to the win by McNeese State.

Defending national champion North Dakota State (7-0) is ranked number one again this week while Eastern Illinois (6-1) moved into the number two spot. Eastern Washington (5-2) is now ranked third, ahead of No. 4 McNeese State (6-1).  Montana State (5-2) is ranked fifth, just ahead of Coastal Carolina (7-0). Coastal held on to its number six ranking with a 55-52 victory over Liberty in double overtime. Sam Houston State (5-2) fell to seventh while No. 8 Towson (7-1), No. 9 Fordham (8-0) and No. 10 Montana (6-1) round out the Top 10.

Towson is one of five CAA teams ranked in the FCS Top 25. Maine (6-1) is ranked 11th after the Black Bears’ 34-20 win over William & Mary. Villanova (4-3) fell to 18th in the nation after dropping a 29-28 decision to No. 20 New Hampshire (3-3). James Madison (5-2) did not play last week but the Dukes moved up to 19th.

The Tigers will travel to Richmond on Saturday to face the Spiders in a 12 noon game.
