BOWLING GREEN, Ohio Bowling Green put an abrupt halt to Towson’s modest two-game road winning streak by handing the Tigers a 77-58 loss in Anderson Arena Monday night.

Towson dropped to 5-6 on the year while the Falcons, who were playing at home for just the third time in 11 outings this season, improved to 5-5.

The Falcons began picking apart Towson’s zone with some adept passing. They would finish the game with 25 assists on 30 made free throws. Every so often Bowling Green would thrown in a three-pointer. A 14-2 run erased Towson’s last lead (11-9) and put the Falcons in command 23-13 at the 6:37 mark.

Bowling Green led by as many as 14 (30-16) before David Brewster helped to close the gap, 34-27, with back-to-back treys. Chris Knight’s buzzer beater sent the Falcons into the lockeroom on top, 36-27.

Bowling Green broke from the gate in the second half at a full gallop, building quickly to an 18-point lead (47-29) with an 11-2 run. The Falcons seemed to play better as the second period wore on. They shot 65 per cent (17-26) from the floor for those 20 minutes and finished the game with a sharp 55.6 per cent clip. The Tigers shot 34 per cent.

The Tigers whittled the score down to 12 (51-39) but the Falcons buried a couple of three-pointers to pump the advantage back to 19 (60-41) with 7:36 remaining in the contest.

Erik Marschall’s fast break lay up with 30 seconds left on the game clock gave Bowling Green its biggest lead, 21 points.

Junior Hairston registered his first double-double of the season and the 10th of his career in leading the Tigers with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Brewster matched his career high with 13 points. Darryl Clements led the Falcons with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists.

The Tigers are back in action this Sunday afternoon when they travel to Easton, Pa. to face the Lafayette Leopards. Tip off is 1:00 p.m. The game will be carried back to the metropolitan Baltimore area on WTMD, 89.7 on the FM dial.
