Tony And The Tigers Square Off With JMU Wednesday Night

TOWSON, Md. The Tigers are looking to get back on the winning track as they travel to Harrisonburg, Va. to face the Dukes of James Madison Wednesday night. Game time is 7:00 p.m. WTMD (89.7 FM) Radio will carry the action back to the metropolitan Baltimore area. The game will also be video streamed and available on a subscription basis http://www.towsontigers.com/liveEvents/liveEvents.dbml?&DB_OEM_ID=21300&KEY=.

Towson has dropped four straight to CAA opponents. The Tigers bowed to leaders George Mason, Northeastern and  Virginia Commonwealth before hitting a season low in a 68-46 loss at Georgia State this past Saturday. The Tigers are playing better on the road this season, entering tonight’s game with a 3-6 away mark. Last year the Tigers won their opening road game and then lost 14 straight road games. This year Towson has wins at UMBC, High Point and Delaware. The Tigers are tied for 9th in the CAA standings with Delaware. James Madison is tied for 4th with Drexel.

This will be Towson’s first rematch of the season. The Tigers took the first game against the Dukes back on January 3rd by a 58-57 count on two Junior Hairston free throws with 45.7 seconds left. The Dukes had gained the upper hand 11 minutes into the game and held it for the next 28:15 before Hairston’s free throws gave the Tigers their only lead of the second half. JMU went scoreless for the final 3:18 of the contest. Hairston’s double-double of 16 points and 10 boards showed the way for Towson. Juwann James paced the Dukes with a career high 24 points.

This will be the 30th meeting between the two teams with the Dukes ahead, 20-9. James Madison has dominated its series with Towson. The Dukes won the first 8 games before the Tigers could make it to the win column with back-to-back victories in 1986 and 1995. The Dukes then won nine straight. Since then, the Tigers have won 7 of the last 10 games. The two teams split last year with the Tigers winning in the Towson Center 73-64 and the Dukes taking the rematch in Harrisonburg 73-68.
