RICHMOND, Va. – Towson senior forward Junior Hairston was named to the 2009 Colonial Athletic Association’s All-Tournament team announced after Monday night’s championship won by Virginia Commonwealth 71-50 over George Mason.

Hairston was recognized along with Old Dominion’s Gerald Lee, George Mason’s Cam Long and Dre Smith plus VCU’s Larry Sanders and Eric Maynor.

Maynor, the CAA’s Player of the Year, was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

Hairston becomes the first Towson player selected to the CAA’s All-Tournament team since the Tigers joined the league eight years ago. He earned the honor for leading the 11^th-seeded Tigers to the semifinals. After knocking off 6^th-seeded Drexel 73-62, the Tigers upset 3^rd-seeded Northeastern 58-54 to become the lowest seed in the history of the CAA Tournament to advance to the semifinals.

Towson faced defending champ George Mason in the semifinals, bowing 56-48 in a game that wasn’t decided until the final minute. Towson had the game’s largest lead at six points, 42-36, with 10:01 remaining in the contest.

An All-CAA third team selection after the regular season, Hairston averaged 14.0 points and 6.7 rebounds over the three tournament games. He had eight blocks. He scored a game high 24 points in the win over Drexel. At one point the Tigers led the Dragons by 26 points (36-10). That stood up as the largest lead in any game of the tournament.

Hairston leaves Towson as one of only six players in program history to grab more than 600 career rebounds. His 629 boards stand him sixth on the list. He also established himself high on Towson’s all-time shot blocking list. He finished 2008-09 with 60 blocks, the fifth most in a season for a Tiger player. He registered 129 blocks for his career which places him fourth on the program’s all-time list.
