TOWSON, Md. A talented class of 12 soccer players, including five from the State of Maryland, will join the Tiger men’s soccer team for the upcoming 2009 season, it has been announced by Coach Frank Olszewski.

“We are very pleased to welcome this outstanding group of student-athletes to our program,” Coach Olszewski says. “We are looking forward to their contributions on the field, in the classroom and in the community. I believe that there is a quality, commitment, and competitiveness that will fit in nicely with our returning players.”

Juan Esteban Garcia Cabrales
Pendleton School (Fla.)/Barranquilla, Colombia
Height: 5-7
Weight: 154 lbs.
Position: Forward
Club Team: IMG Academy

Coach Olszewski says: "Juan Esteban is a true forward who knows how to both connect with the midfield and score goals. He is strong on the ball with some real technical pace. He has received excellent training at IMG with Coach Tom Durkin." 

Guil Costa
Lake Braddock H.S./Belo Horizonte, Brazil
Height: 5-6
Weight: 154 lbs.
Position: Midfield
Club Team: Reston F.C.

Background: Transfer from College of Southern Maryland who was a two-year captain ... earned NSCAA All-America honors after scoring 13 goals with 11 assists as a sophomore ... tallied 25 goals with 13 assists as a freshman ... four-year letter winner at Lake Braddock High School ... named as All-Met Player of the Year by The Washington Post as a senior after scoring 18 goals with 14 assists for the Bruins ... led Reston F.C. to five state titles ... three-year participant of Olympic Developmental Program.

Coach Olszewski says: "Guil is a very exciting and dynamic midfielder. He brings a great deal of energy in both the attacking and defending phases of the game. Quite literally, he never stops moving on and off the ball.”

Coach Olszewski says: "Stefan is excellent technically and provides some experience, as well as, versatility from the left side either in the midfield or as a defender. His speed of play and vision will be real assets. He has a winning mentality". 

Zach Hoffer
Great Oak H.S./Temecula, Calif.
Height: 6-2
Weight: 175 lbs.
Position: Forward
Club Team: San Diego Surf (U.S. Development Academy); ODP Region I Pool; ODP Europe

Coach Olszewski says: "Zach possesses excellent size and ball skills around the goal. He works extremely hard and leaves everything on the field. He is another player who has been brought along in his development by Coach Stadtrecher to join our program.” 

Phil Martinelli
Marriot's Ridge H.S./Woodstock, Md.
Height: 5-10
Weight: 155 lbs.
Position: Midfield
Club Team: SAC Premier

Background: NSCAA All-American and All-Region selection for Coach Kevin Flynn ... also named All-State notice ... led club team to state title.

Coach Olszewski Says: "Phil is a player that brings positive energy to the table everyday. He can play on either side in the midfield, comes from the highly successful SAC Premier team under the direction of Rick Cantore and Sean Wray, and brings a championship mentality. He did extremely well at our Advanced Training Camp last Summer." 

Nathan Moran
Middletown H.S./Middletown, Del.
Height: 6-2
Weight: 180 lbs.
Position: Goalkeeper
Club Team: CDSA Revolution

Background: All State player for Coach Brian Derrickson at Middletown H.S.

Coach Olszewski says: "Nathan will add depth to our goalkeeping corps. He has some very positive attributes for a young goalkeeper. He has both the size, determination, and personality to make a positive impact." 

Trevar Ondiek
Kiski Prep (Pa.)/Silver Spring, Md.
Height: 5-7
Weight: 140 lbs.
Position: Midfield
Club Team: Olney

Background: Led Kiski Prep to IPSL title ... earned All-IPSL honors for Coach Mark Orsatti.

Coach Olszewski says: "Trevar showed a high level of potential at our Advanced Training Camp last summer. He brings some explosiveness to the midfield and has a very high work ethic which bodes well for his future development." 

Joe O'Rourke
Bacon’s Tech College/London England
Height: 6-0
Weight: 170 lbs.
Position: Midfield

Background: Transfer from C.W. Post ... named as East Coast Conference Rookie of the Year in 2007.

Coach Olszewski says: "Joe is a dynamic midfielder who comes with a great deal of experience. He has a proven record scoring and assisting goals with great vision to match. He brings a competitiveness at all times". 

Matteo Vertucci
Pendleton School (Fla.)/Rome, Italy
Height: 5-11
Weight: 165 lbs.
Position: Forward/Midfield
Club Team: IMG Academy/A.S. Roma (Italy)

Coach Olszewski says: "Matteo is a player that has the technical abilities and tactical awareness to help the team to both create attacking opportunities. He works hard off of the ball offensively and defensively to help the team. He too, has received high level experience at IMG with the U.S. Development Academy under the direction of Coach Tom Durkin." 

Chris Weaver
Archbishop Curley H.S./Baltimore, Md.
Height: 5-7
Weight: 140 lbs.
Position: Midfield/Forward
Club Team: Baltimore Bays  (U.S. Development Academy)

Background: All-MIAA selection for Coach Barry Stitz at Archbishop Curley.

Coach Olszewski says: "Chris brings high energy onto the field with an extremely high work ethic. He battles constantly for his team. With his speed, he never lets a defense rest. He has had excellent training in his development at Archbishop Curley with both Coach Stitz and with the very successful Bays program."

Aaron Wheeler
Patapsco H.S./Dundalk, Md.
Height: 6-4
Weight: 175 lbs.
Position: Midfield

Background: Transfer from Lenoir-Rhyne who joined the Tigers during the Spring season ... two-time NSCAA All-South Atlantic Region first team pick at Lenoir-Rhyne ... three-time first team All-Conference selection ... scored 13 goals with 2 assists in 2008.

Coach Olszewski says: "Aaron is a very skillful player that has the potential to make an impact in every game he plays. He is versatile to play anywhere on the field. He has the combination of size and speed that are difficult to deal with.” 

Kyle Yingling
James M. Bennett H.S./Salisbury, Md.
Height: 5-10
Weight: 155 lbs.
Position: Forward
Club Team: CDSA Revolution

Background: All-State player for Coach Skip Ruark ...  scored 28 goals as a senior and led James M. Bennett to state championship.

Coach Olszewski says: "Kyle is another player we were able to observe and work with, who did very well at our Advanced Training Camp this past summer. He obviously has a knack of scoring goals with 28 in his final high school season. He is also very clean and sound technically with the ball."
