Towson athletics director Mike Hermann added up the years of service to the Tiger program from his Media Relations office and forthrightly concluded that his two top tenured staffers, Dan O’Connell and me, should be spreading our old stories to a larger audience, rather than dropping the occasional anecdote to the folks leaning on the Towson Center balcony railing watching basketball practice.

This is a consequence of our longevity. We’ve got over 60 years at Towson between us.

We know a lot of people. We’ve covered a lot of games.

“We know too much,” Dan said. “That’s what got us into trouble.”

Okay. We got caught. But we’re big boys. We’re going to perform our duty.

Truth be told, we’re both secretly looking forward to it. We don’t want to let on to Mike that this is a top two or three fun list item. If he suspects we’d rather write nostalgia pieces than attend one of his staff meetings, or that composing these is more palatable than a four-hour bus ride that has you returning to the Towson Center around 2:00 a.m. the following morning, our next evaluations might take some serious hits.

From time-to-time Dan and I will stroll down memory lane. The copy will run when we have something to say; once a week, twice a month. The topics could range from an event we covered to a former player we’ve run into. We could put together a potpourri of Tiger stuff. We might comment on a media interview, a memorable performance, a favorite play – whatever comes to mind.
