INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS COMMITTEE

The purpose of the Intercollegiate Athletics Committee is to advise the President, report to the University Senate, and make appropriate recommendations on matters relevant to the Intercollegiate Athletics Program's status, direction, and major policy/operational processes. Its responsibilities include:

  • Participating actively in decisions related to conference affiliation, sports sponsorship, and the selection of a Director of Athletics
  • Reviewing data, provided by the University Compliance committee, concerning the program's compliance with NCAA and conference compliance regulations and with gender quality and other office of Civil Rights requirements
  • Reviewing data, provided by the Registrar or Faculty Athletic Representative, concerning initial and continuing eligibility of student-athletes
  • Reviewing schedules of athletic contest, particularly in light of their fiscal and academic implications
  • Reviewing financial planning, budgetary management, and other related fiscal activities

The committee consists of the Faculty Athletics Representative, a representative from the Provost's Office, elected faculty representatives from each of the colleges in Towson University, student representatives appointed by the SGA, a representative appointed by University's Chief Financial Officer, the Chair of the Department of Kinesiology, and the Director of Campus Recreation Services. The committee chair reports to the University President and provides periodic program updates to the Faculty Senate.
