TOWSON, Md. - The Tigers open Colonial Athletic Association play this weekend by hosting a pair of games. Towson (4-4) will host #20 James Madison on Friday, September 24 at 6 p.m. The Tigers then host VCU on Sunday, September 26 at noon.
Towson split its two games last weekend with a 3-2 overtime win over West Chester and a 5-1 loss to #11 Boston College. Katie DeFilippo had a pair of goals in the win over the Golden Rams and an assist against the Eagles. Whitney Clugston made eight saves in the two games.
On the season, the Tigers are 3-0 at home this year and are one of three teams in the CAA to be undefeated at home this year (Hofstra and VCU). Kristie Blumer leads the Tigers with three goals and one assist this year while Kasie Nurko has tallied three goals. DeFilippo has posted two goals and two assists so far. Clugston has recorded 32 saves in eight games.
James Madison is coming off a 3-2 win over Longwood on Wednesday evening. Dolores de Rooij scored a pair of goals for the Dukes in the victory. Amy Daniel leads James Madison on the season with eight goals and four assists while Lindsay Cutchins has tallied three goals and five assists. Margo Savage has made 50 saves and brings a CAA best 1.29 goals against average into Friday's game.
VCU will visit Delaware on Friday night before coming to take on the Tigers on Sunday afternoon. The Rams have won five of their last six contests entering Friday's action. Emilie Soares and Marle Van dessel each have four goals apiece for VCU entering play this weekend. Kelsey Scherrer has tallied three goals and three assists for the Rams. Erin Jablonski has made 31 saves with a 1.76 goals against average for the Rams.
The Tigers return to action on October 1 when they visit William & Mary for a 7 p.m. match.
