--Playoff Implications
After taking care of business this weekend with an impressive 15-5 win over Monmouth in an NCAA Play-In game, the Colonial Athletic Association women's lacrosse champions are now one of sixteen teams left to contend for a national title.
They are also one of eight teams that are seeded - which means a home game.
The last time Towson qualified for tournament play was 2010. The last coach to take them there was Missy Doherty (right) -- only this time, she'll stand on the opposite sideline. The Tigers will host Penn State Saturday at 3 p.m. in the first round of the NCAA playoffs. Doherty, now with Penn State, was the head of the Tigers program for seven seasons, before vacating the position now held by CAA Coach of the Year Sonia LaMonica.
In her seven seasons with the Tigers, Doherty led Towson to three CAA championships and four appearances in the NCAA Tournament. In fact, the last game that she coached at Towson was the Tigers' 14-12 NCAA Tournament loss at Virginia in 2010.
LaMonica was Doherty's assistant coach at Towson in 2008 and 2009 and the pair combined to lead the Tigers to back-to-back CAA championships. LaMonica left after the 2009 season to become the head coach at Mount St. Mary's. When Doherty was named as the Nittany Lions' coach, Sonia returned to Towson as the head coach.
In two seasons, LaMonica has coached Towson to a 27-10 and has been named as the CAA Coach of the Year twice.
The Tigers' reaction to their draw...

Towson softball closed out its season over the weekend. In the Tigers' final shot to break into the top four of the CAA standings and qualify for CAA playoff action, the Tigers fell to James Madison on the road in 11 evenings on Saturday. Towson finished the 2012 season 25-30, and 8-13 in CAA play.
Meanwhile, the Tigers' baseball team snapped a six-game losing streak Friday night against the top team in the conference, UNC Wilmington. The Seahawks bounced back to take the final two games of the series. With six CAA games left on the schedule, the Tigers need to pick up the pace to qualify for the CAA Tournament.
