Good Morning, Tiger Nation. I am @Simon_HWT aka The Heavyweight and it's time to Wake Up on the Strong Side.

--Baseball Controls its own Destiny

There's such a satifying feeling when you control your own destiny - as is the situation for the Tigers' Baseball team. Towson kept their CAA playoff hopes in the picture with an 11-10 home win over JMU yesterday. Towson, who took the first of three yesterday, enter tomorrow's regular season finale 1.5-game ahead of Georgia State and Northeastern for the sixth and final spot in the CAA tourney. Sweeping the Dukes would ensure that spot.

Towson and JMU duke it out (get it, 'cause they're the Dukes) in the series & season finale today at 1 p.m.

--Baltimore vs. Richmond

Yesterday I began the first of a five day defense in my plea for the CAA Hoops tournament to be moved to Baltimore. Yesterday, my case called the Richmond Colliseum into question and suggested the First Mariner Arena would provide a more appropriate home stage for the best mid-major tournament in the country.

Today, my focus still remains on the backdrop, but this time instead of the building that hosts the event I would like to shift focus to the people who fill up the arena - local sports fans.

Baltimore area sports fans have great ability in backing a team they consider their own. Too be frank, this city is still dominated by Maryland Terrapins supporters and enthusists - but what Terps fans have in numbers they lack in quality of fandom.

What do I mean by that? Look at how big of a school Maryland is - that's why there are so many fans. But look at a school like Loyola, who made a masterful run all season through the MAAC and ended up in the dance. Look at how such a small, private, Jesuit school tucked away in North Baltimore got local fans riled up - a school that has maybe a tenth of the enrollment as College Park. It's one thing to cheer for a school because you went there or a friend/family member did. But for a community to back such a small school, even those who were never enrolled there, says a lot about the depth of Baltimore sports fans.

CAA teams, Towson included, could have that kind of impact on the sports fans who reside in and around this city. Monday, we'll continue with a look into Towson & the conference's growth.
