TOWSON, Md. – Towson University’s Department of Athletics has released the latest installment of its 2011-12 Points of Pride. The Points of Pride have been designed to highlight and represent the best of Tiger Athletics and will be updated on a monthly basis throughout the academic year.

Academics:

• Sixty-nine Tiger student-athletes received degrees at Towson University's 147th Commencement Exercises in late May.

• Fifteen student-athletes were awarded Tiger Athletics Scholar Medallion at the ceremony. The medallion recognizes those student-athletes who graduated with a grade point average of at least 3.50.

• Graduate student Katie Ogden of the Tiger track and field and cross country teams was awarded a post-graduate scholarship by the Maryland Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (MACDA). Ogden was one of three recipients of the scholarship, which recognizes student-athletes from a Maryland College or University for excellence in a varsity sport while maintaining a 3.20 or above GPA. The scholarships enable the recipients to further their education at the post-graduate level.

• Thirteen teams posted a cumulative grade point average of over 3.0 for the Spring '12 semester, including the men's lacrosse team which did so for the first time.

Baseball:

Junior third baseman Zach Fisher of the Tigers was named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I baseball team. He was a third-team selection.

• Fisher (pictured) was also named to the Colonial Athletic Association All-Tournament Team after batting .500 (8-for-16) with a home run and six runs batted in over a three-game span.

• Freshman utility player Brendan Butler and junior pitcher Michael Trionfo were each selected to the All-CAA second team after outstanding seasons in 2012. Butler, who was also named to the CAA All-Rookie team, batted .308 with 34 runs batted in during his first season. He also stole 14 bases. Trionfo set a Towson single-season record with 11 victories while posting a 3.35 earned run average for the season.

Women's Lacrosse:

• Senior goaltender Mary Teeters and junior defender Alexa Demski were selected by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association as third team All-Americans.

• Four Tigers were selected to the IWLCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region teams. Teeters and Demski were first team honorees, while junior midfielder Kelly Custer and sophomore attacker Andi Raymond were second team picks.

• Teeters and Sarah Appelt were selected to play in the IWLCA North-South Senior All-Star game.

• Teeters was also nominated for the prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year award. The award will be given out in October.
