If you have been putting off purchasing your season tickets for football this year it’s time to stop procrastinating and order now. Season tickets are very affordable, starting at just $55. We all know there are no bad seats in Johnny Unitas® Stadium, not to mention the fact that if you order now you will receive a pretty awesome gift.
Football players aren’t the only Towson student-athletes that are receiving preseason national attention. Cheyenne Skidmore and Sofia Read have been named to the College Sports Madness 2012 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Preseason All-Conference Second Team.
Let’s Unleash the Roar
I had a chance to go out to Unitas Stadium to watch the Tiger football team practice yesterday and let’s just say that Head Coach Rob Ambrose is making sure that his players stay focused. He is preaching mental toughness and I think it’s starting to hit home with a lot of the players.
There were some good plays during practice. Sophomore running back Terrance West looked strong, finding and hitting the holes the offensive line produced for him. One play in particular stood out, as West hit a hole to the outside and streaked down the sideline - easily producing six points if it were a game situation.
West was not the only running back that looked good in yesterday’s practice. Redshirt freshman transfer Vince DePaola capped off a good drive with a tough run up the middle for a touchdown.
Quarterback Grant Enders made some strong throws over the middle and wide receiver Spencer Wilkins came down with some big catches through traffic, much to the delight of Wide Receivers Coach Dassin Blackwell.
After practice I had a chance to catch up with Defensive Coordinator Matt Hachmann.
A Look Outside Towson
Like many schools around the CAA, the New Hampshire Wildcats have a quarterback controversy. This year the Wildcats will be led by one of their younger quarterbacks, as senior James Brady has been banged up for most of camp.
During the preseason there are different college football polls that seem to come out everyday. The latest (The Sports Network Poll) has Sam Houston State sitting atop the FCS with 2011 National Champion North Dakota State in the number two spot. However, the CAA that has the most teams in the top 25 with six, and Towson checks in at number seven.
Countdown to Kent State
We are just 16 days a way from kickoff in Kent State, but @Doc_the_Tiger said it best yesterday...
It really does feel like an eternity!
But I wanted to get a feel for where the players' minds were at, so I asked Terrance West if the players were anxious to get out on the field.
“We are very anxious,” West said, “I didn’t get to play last year against Morgan (State) and the vibe around here feels like its coming back...we can’t wait.”
You can see the rest of my interview with West later today on the Towson Sports Network.
Thanks for reading another edition of the Morning Roar, be sure to check back same time tomorrow. In the meantime be sure to follow me on twitter @ZachMaskavich.
