INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The NCAA recently released its list of nominees for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award. Among the 429 nominees which span all three divisions is Towson University's nominee Mary Teeters.

Teeters recently earned her business administration degree after completing a stellar four-year career for the Tiger women's lacrosse team.

The Woman of the Year award honors graduating female student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their college careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership.

From the initial list, the NCAA will select its top ten candidates in each division sometime in August. The top ten will be narrowed to the top three from each division in September with the award being given in November.

Nance Reed, Senior Associate Director of Athletics at Towson was part of the group that selected the Tigers' nominee.

"When we look for a candidate, we have to look at not just their athletic performance but also their work in the classroom and the community," said Reed. "Mary, who earned the female career achievement award (in the athletic department) really explemfies what we look for when nominating for this award."

Reed added, "we look for the candidate we really feel has the strongest opportunity to move forward and I truly feel Mary can be that person."

Teeters capped her spectacular senior season by earning a spot in the IWLCA North South All-Star game. She earned Third Team All-American honors from the IWLCA after garnering first team all-region honors for the second time in her career. A first team All-CAA selection and a Tewaaraton Trophy nominee, Teeters ranked among the nation's leaders in goals-against-average (8.47) and save percentage (.502) all season.

She finished the season with 159 saves, becoming just the sixth player in program history to record over 600 saves (631) in her career. Teeters had several key stops in the CAA Tournament to help the Tigers secure their fifth CAA title as she was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. She made a season-high 13 saves in the win over Delaware and her play helped the Tigers boast one of the best scoring defenses in the nation all year. Teeters was selected as the 2012 Towson Athletics Female Career Achievement Award winner.
