TOWSON, Md. – Last week, on a steamy Tuesday evening, Tiger Athletics conducted a truly unique leadership training program that involved a partnership with a special forces military-type training organization out of Washington, D.C. called GORUCK as well as the Towson University Office of Veterans Affairs.
The Tiger football staff, along with various Athletics Department and University staff members, completed the GORUCK Challenge, a 12-hour endurance test that was held around the University campus and the Towson community. It included mini-challenges and tasks that the team must work together to overcome.
Inspired by the most elite training offered to Special Forces soldiers and led by Green Berets, the GORUCK Challenge is a team event, not a race. Challenge cadre build each class into a team through collective conditions of mental and physical exhaustion. Classes are small, camaraderie is high, smiles are plentiful, and teamwork is paramount.
The route and distance of the challenge are unknown to participants and GORUCK Challenges can last longer and go on for greater distances if the team needs it in order to fully become a team.
