TOWSON, Md. – The football season opener between the Tigers and Kent State University, scheduled for Thursday, August 30 at 7 p.m., will be televised throughout the region on Comcast SportsNet Plus.

Veteran announcer Joe Beninati, the network’s Washington Capitals announcer, will handle the play-by-play duties while Brad Jackson, a former linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens and current Comcast SportsNet NFL analyst, will handle the commentary duties.

When the Tigers, who won the 2011 Colonial Athletic Association championship and finished the season with a 9-3 record, open their season at Kent State, they will be facing an NCAA FBS program for the fifth time since 2008. In the last five years, the Tigers have played at Navy (2008), Northwestern (2009), Indiana (2010) and Maryland (2011).

Kent State, which plays in the Mid-American Conference, has 43 letter winners returning from a team that posted a 5-7 record last season. Coach Darrell Hazell is returning for his second season as the coach of the Golden Flashes. Last year, Kent State finished the season with four wins in its final five games.

With the addition of the Kent State to the Tigers’ TV schedule, six of the Tigers’ 11 games will be televised.

Led by CAA Coach of the Year Rob Ambrose, the Tigers will have five of their eight CAA games televised. Three of their CAA games will be carried on the NBC Sports Network while two other contests will be televised on Comcast SportsNet.

The NBC Sports Network will televise the Tigers’ CAA games against William and Mary (Sept. 15), James Madison (Oct. 6) and Delaware (Nov. 3). Towson’s road games at Villanova (Oct. 27) and New Hampshire (Nov. 17) will be broadcast by Comcast SportsNet.

Last year, Towson had five games televised, including the NCAA FCS playoff game against Lehigh which was handled by ESPN3. The Tigers’ games against Morgan State, Maryland, Delaware and Maine were also televised.

The Tigers’ six scheduled television appearances are the most they have had since the 2007 season when Towson also had six games televised.

Additional Tiger football games could be added to the television schedule in later weeks.
