TOWSON, Md. - As the Tigers conducted their fourth pre-season workout, the Tigers' experienced and talented group of wide receivers had another impressive session.
When asked about the Tigers' wide receivers, Coach Dassin Blackwell can barely contain his enthusiasm.
"This is a tremendous group," says Blackwell. "We have depth, we have speed and we have talent. Best of all, we have experience."
The Tigers have four senior wide receivers on the roster, a huge asset for the team.
Seniors Tom Ryan, Alex Blake, Erron Banks and Gerrard Sheppard lead he receivers. Ryan led the team with 39 receptions for 560 yards and three touchdowns. Blake had 17 catches for 187 yards while Sheppard caught 22 passes for 274 yards and two TD's. Banks suffered through an injury-riddled season and made only four catches for 38 yards.
Junior Leon Kinnard was the team's second-leading receiver with 36 catches for 402 yards and one TD.
"Our veterans are amazing," says Blackwell. "They teach one another. They have helped our younger receivers get better."
Last season, the Tigers' passing game didn't get many chances to show its prowess. The Tigers' running game was so dominant that Towson attempted only 23 passes per game. The Tigers led the Colonial Athletic Association with 229.9 rushing yards per contest.
"All of our receivers know that we are going to throw the ball a lot more this year," says Blackwell. "They are excited about it and they can't wait to make plays."
The Tigers will hold their fifth pre-season practice on Tuesday afternoon.
