BATON ROUGE, La. - Post-game notes from Towson's upset bid against Louisiana State on Saturday night.
PLAYING LSU TOUGH: The LSU defense came into the game as one of the top defenses in the nation ... However, Towson managed to score 22 points against LSU, the most points allowed by an LSU team since the 2011 season opener when Oregon scored 27 points in a 40-27 loss to LSU ... Towson also had 291 yards of total offense, including 188 rushing yards ... Towson had 19 first downs and ran 73 offensive plays ... Towson also controlled the clock, holding the ball for 34:42.
TWO MORE FOR WEST: Sophomore Terrance West added two more touchdowns to his season total in the loss at LSU ... West has now scored seven touchdowns in four games this season and has 36 career TD's in 15 games ... He is second in the Colonial Athletic Association in scoring.
TURNOVER MARGIN: Entering the game at LSU, Towson had forced only one turnover in its first three games ... However, Towson came up with three recovered fumbles at LSU and it helped Towson stay in the game.
TOWSON vs. FBS PROGRAMS: On Saturday night, Towson played an FBS program for the second time this season and the sixth time overall ... Saturday night's game against LSU was the closest game Towson has played ... The 16-point margin of victory was the smallest and Towson's 9-7 second quarter lead was the first time Towson had a lead over an FBS team.
CAREER HIGH: When quarterback Grant Enders ran for 86 yards on 12 carries at LSU, it marked his career high ... His 43-yard run in the second quarter set up Towson's first touchdown of the game ... Enders also passed for 103 yards and a touchdown to finish with 189 yards of total offense.
ALL-TIME RUSHING LEADERS: By rushing for 79 yards on 22 carries, Terrance West moved into tenth place on Towson's all-time rushing list ... He now has 1,624 yards on 265 carries in his career and needs only 35 yards to pass David Meggett and move into ninth place on the all-time list.
LES MILES IMPRESSED: LSU Coach Les Miles was impressed by Towson's performance ... He said, "First, you have to give credit to the Towson Tigers. I told our team that they were a good football team. I insisted that we prepare well. We did. I thought our practice week was good. We didn't play like that though. We didn't give them the credit that they deserved. I thought that their (running) back was a big strong powerful back. I thought their quarterback was a talented guy and could move his feet. Frankly, they did what they should have done defensively. Give them some credit. I thought that they played well."
