HARRISONBURG, Va. - Towson will return to Colonial Athletic Association action this week when the Tigers visit James Madison University in a matchup between two nationally-ranked FCS teams.
While Towson comes into the game with a 2-2 record, the Tigers’ losses have come at the hands of NCAA FBS opponents Kent State and Louisiana State ... James Madison is 3-0 against FCS opponents ... JMU’s lone loss was to an FBS team, West Virginia.
Today’s game is the 24th meeting between Towson and James Madison ... The Dukes lead the series by a 17-5-1 margin ... Since Towson joined the Atlantic 10 Football Conference/Colonial Athletic Association, JMU has won all seven games between the schools ... JMU is the only CAA school that Towson has never beaten ... Last year, when Towson won the CAA championship, JMU was not on the schedule.
This year’s Towson-JMU game makes this series the most-played rivalry in Towson history, surpassing the Towson-Morgan State rivalry which has been played 22 times ... But this is only JMU’s third-longest rivalry ... JMU has played William & Mary 34 times and Richmond 29 times.
