VILLANOVA, Pa. - Here are some post-game notes from the Tigers' 49-35 victory at Villanova on Saturday.
OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION: The Tigers rolled up a seasonal high 590 yards in their win at Villanova ... Their 590 total yards were the most they had in a game since they compiled 627 yards in a 49-35 win over Delaware in 2006 ... Ironically, that game had the same score ... It was also eighth-highest single game total in school history.
CAA TITLE HOPES: The Tigers' 49-35 victory over CAA co-leader Villanova was crucial to the Tigers' hopes for winning the CAA championship ... With the win, Towson is now 3-2 in the CAA ... New Hampshire leads the CAA with a 5-1 record and the Tigers play UNH on Nov. 17 ... James Madison (4-1) and Old Dominion (4-1) are tied for second place but ODU isn't eligible for the CAA championship ... Villanova is now fourth (4-2) while Towson (3-2) and Richmond (3-2) are tied for fifth place.
BIG FIRST QUARTER: Going into Saturday's game at Villanova, the Tigers had only scored 31 first quarter points all season ... But, Towson erupted for 21 first quarter points against the Wildcats ... That tied the school record for points in a quarter ... When the Tigers scored a touchdown on their opening drive, it marked the first time this season they did so ... Towson scored touchdowns in the first quarter on a 48-yard run by Terrance West, an 18-yard touchdown pass from Grant Enders to Tom Ryan and a 78-yard TD pass from Enders to West.
SACK ATTACK: The Tigers recorded a seasonal high seven sacks against Villanova quarterback John Robertson on Saturday ... Linebacker Monte Gaddis (below) had two sacks while Bryton Barr, Drew Cheripko and Frank Beltre each had a sack ... Senior defensive tackle Matt Morgan made a key 13-yard sack to stop a Villanova drive in the third quarter when Towson was clinging to a 42-35 lead ... Sophomore Brendon Gannon also had a 13-yard sack on Villanova's final offensive play on fourth down at the Towson 33-yard line with five minutes left ... Then, the Tigers ran out the clock.
VILLANOVA DEFENSE STRUGGLES: Villanova's defense came into the game with one of the top defensive units in the Colonial Athletic Association, allowing only 19.0 points per game ... However, the 49 points scored by the Tigers were the most allowed by Villanova since a 51-40 loss to New Hampshire on October 2, 2004 ... In addition, the Tigers' 590 yards of total offense were the most allowed by Villanova since New Hampshire had 643 yards on October 2, 2004 ... The 321 rushing yards for the Tigers were the most allowed by the Wildcats since Rhode Island had 436 rushing yards on October 22, 2005.
GO WEST: Sophomore Terrance West had his biggest game of the season at Villanova ... Terrance, who has dedicated the rest of the season to his late grandmother, ran for 144 yards on 23 carries and scored two rushing touchdowns ... He also caught the first touchdown pass of his career as he hauled in a 78-yard TD toss from Grant Enders in the second quarter ... Terrance now has 11 touchdowns this season and is tied for the CAA lead ... Terrance is now the sixth-leading rusher in Towson history with 1,976 yards ... He has also scored 40 touchdowns in his career and is only second player in Towson history to score 40 touchdowns.
TOTALLY OFFENSIVE: Quarterback Grant Enders had a career high 391 yards of total offense in the win at Villanova ... He completed 16 of 28 passes for 269 yards and four touchdowns ... He also ran for a career high 122 yards on 12 carries and scored a touchdown ... He is now the ninth-leading rusher in the CAA.
