RICHMOND, Va. - Freshman forward Sofia Read of Towson University has been named as the recipient of the Colonial Athletic Association Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week award for the week ending August 21, it has been announced by CAA officials.

In earning the first weekly award of her career, Read becomes the third Tiger women's soccer player to be named as the CAA Rookie of the Week since 2002.

"Sofia showed a tremendous amount of composure and poise in her first collegiate game," Towson Coach Greg Paynter said. "For her to get off to a good start with a game-winning goal in her first game is hopefully just the beginning of a successful year."

Making her college debut, Read scored the eventual game-winning goal in the Tigers' 2-0 victory over Loyola on Saturday afternoon. She tallied the first goal of her career in the 13th minute off an assist from senior midfielder Courtney McKee to give Towson a 1-0 lead.

The win marked the Tigers' first-ever victory over the Greyhounds in 12 all-time meetings.

Read and the Tigers will start a two-match road trip on Friday afternoon when they travel to Georgetown University for a 3 p.m. match against the Hoyas.
