RICHMOND, Va. – Junior forward Cheyenne Skidmore of the Tiger women’s soccer team has been selected as a member of the All-Colonial Athletic Association third team, it has been announced by CAA officials.

In addition, freshman defender Sofia Read was named to the CAA All-Rookie Team.

A starter in 16 of 19 games, Skidmore was the Tigers’ leading scorer with eight goals and nine assists. With 25 points, Skidmore ranks sixth in the CAA. She has also posted the third-highest single-season point total in school history.

“Cheyenne had an excellent year and was a dual threat to score or set others up to score,” Towson Coach Greg Paynter said. “Her commitment throughout the offseason was rewarded with her exceptional fitness level and ability to be effective and durable all season long.”

Skidmore was honored as the CAA Player of the Week on Sept. 12 after leading the Tigers to a pair of wins over UMBC and Mount St. Mary’s. After scoring a goal in the 3-1 win over the Retrievers, Skidmore led Towson to a 5-0 victory over the Mountaineers by scoring two goals with an assist.

Skidmore, who ranks second in the CAA in assists, helped Towson earn its first win over Hofstra since 1997 when she recorded three assists in a 3-2 victory over the Pride on Oct. 7. She also had three assists in the Tigers’ 3-1 verdict over Northeastern on Oct. 9. In addition, Skidmore tallied a pair of goals in a 4-3 loss against Georgia State on Oct. 14.

“Much of the credit for our offensive success this year should be shared with our entire front line and Cheyenne is the beneficiary of being the marquee player that teams were forced to defend,” Coach Paynter said. “But, I would be remiss not to recognize the contributions of other players, including Emily Banes and Courtney McKee. They alleviated some of the pressure on Cheyenne in our conference games.”

With 45 career points, Skidmore ranks seventh in school history. She is also third on the Tigers’ all-time list with 19 career assists while her 13 career goals rank eighth in school history.

The Tigers’ third-leading scorer with 12 points, Read started 15 of 19 games this season and scored four goals with four assists. She was named as the CAA Rookie of the Week on Aug. 22 after scoring the first goal of her college career in the Tigers’ 2-0 win over Loyola.

Read also had a goal with an assist in the Tigers’ 3-1 victory over UMBC on Sept. 9 and scored a goal in the Tigers’ 5-0 win over Mount St. Mary’s. In addition, she scored the eventual game-winning goal in the Tigers’ 3-1 win over Northeastern.

“Sofia is a truly selfless player,” Paynter said. “She moved to central defense early in the season to help us in an area of need. Even as a defender, she still contributed offensively for us. I look forward to her continued development as a soccer player and athlete.”

Led by Skidmore and Read, the Tigers finished the season with a 9-10-0 record, their highest win total since 2007.
