TOWSON, Md. - The Towson University women's soccer team will play in the 2012 Navy Invitational this weekend in Annapolis, Md. The Tigers face George Washington on Friday, Sept. 7 at 4 p.m. before returning to the Navy Yard for Sunday's contest against Navy at 3 p.m.
George Washington is 2-2 coming into Friday's match. After opening 2012 with losses at Georgetown and George Mason, the Colonials have won their last two matches against Columbia and Cornell. Reigning Atlantic-10 Player of the Week Alex Neal leads George Washington with two goals. Three other players have one goal apiece. Nicole Fasano is the likely starter in net. She has allowed six goals for a 1.70 goals against average (GAA) and has made 22 saves.
Navy is 5-1 and riding a five-game win streak into this weekend's action after a season-opening 3-0 loss to then-No. 13 Maryland. The Mids are out-scoring opponents 18-10, scoring nine goals in each half. Ashlynn Soellner and Morgan Dankanich are tied for the team lead in goals with five each. Two of Soellner's tallies have been game winners. Elizabeth Hoerner is the starter in goal for Navy, having allowed 10 goals for a GAA of 1.82 and making 25 saves.
Towson went 0-1-1 last weekend, playing to a double overtime 1-1 tie at Loyola (Md.) on Aug. 31 before falling 5-0 at Maryland on Sept. 2. Senior Cheyenne Skidmore holds the team lead in goals with two. Sophomore Erin Quinn has started all five matches, made 30 saves and has posted a 2.54 GAA.
Next up, Towson travels to Morgantown, W.Va., to face the Mountaineers of West Virginia on Friday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m.
