TOWSON, Md. - Graduate student Katie Ogden has earned Colonial Athletic Association Women's Cross Country Co-Runner of the Week honors for setting a school record and leading the Tigers to the Cappy Anderson Invitational championship last Saturday.
Ogden set a program record for a 5K run when she placed first in a field of 76 runners in a time of 18:00.59, breaking by one hundredth of a second Towson's old record of 18:01 set by Buffy Gavigan at Lehigh 25 years ago. Ogden bettered her own personal record by 18 seconds.
A native of Owings, Md. where she attended Northern High School, Ogden has led the Tigers to two team titles in as many meets this season. The Tigers opened 2011 by capturing the Metro Meet where Ogden finished first in a field of 86 runners. Her record setting pace showed the way for the Tigers' convincing Cappy Anderson victory as Towson outdistanced second place University of Pittsburgh 17-60.
It was the 13th time in her career Ogden placed first for Towson in a cross country meet. It's the third time in her career she has been cited as CAA Runner of the Week. She is sharing the honor with Hannah Stefanoff of Georgia State.
The Tigers continue their season this Friday when they host the annual Towson Invitational Cross Country Meet on their home course at Oregon Ridge Park. Race time is 4:00 p.m.
