COLUMBIA, Md. – The Maryland Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (MACDA) has awarded Towson University graduate student Katie Ogden with a 2012 post-graduate scholarship, the organization announced. Ogden is one of three recipients of the scholarship, given to the students who display outstanding work in the classroom and on the field.

“It’s extremely well deserved,” Towson cross country and track and field coach Roger Erricker said. “For five years she has given everything to this University. Part of her leadership is by example and that includes academics, which is front and center to her. It’s tough to say goodbye.”

Ogden holds two school track and field records for the Tigers. In 2011, Ogden set the 5,000-meter run record with a time of 17:26.48 and also set the 10,000-meter run record that year with a time of 36:18.14.

Ogden also excelled for the cross country team and holds the Towson 5K record with a time of 18:00.59. On the cross country circuit, she won six individual races and finished first among Towson participants 18 times.

Ogden was twice named All-Colonial Athletic Association after finishing in the top 10 in the conference meet. She is one of only three runners in the history of the school to earn that distinction. Ogden finished seventh in this year’s CAA meet and finished 10th as a senior, recording a personal best 21:44 in the 6K race.

In the classroom, Ogden sported an impressive 3.67 grade-point-average as an undergraduate and is currently working towards her master’s degree in communication management.

The MACDA scholarship requirements include a G.P.A. of at least 3.2 in undergraduate studies, excellence in a varsity sport and a desire to further education.
