TOWSON, Md. - Former shortstop great Sammi DiPompo has joined the Towson University softball staff as an assistant coach, it has been announced by Coach Lisa Costello.
"Sammi will be a wonderful addition to our staff," said Costello. "She had a great career and really worked hard to achieve success. Now she has a chance to work with our girls and show them how to get things done the right way."
"She is truly passionate about Towson and the program," added Costello. "Sammi bleeds black and gold and can help us continue to move the program in the right direction."
DiPompo led the Tigers to over 130 wins and four straight appearances in the Colonial Athletic Association Championship tournament during her career. She appeared in 229 games and started every one of those contests. DiPompo tied the school's single-game record for triples (2), home runs (2), RBIs (6) and sacrifice hits (3).
As a senior, she broke the school record for career RBIs and her record now stands at 140 RBIs. DiPompo finished her career with a .311 batting average. She scored 25+ runs in each of her four seasons and drove in at least 27 in each of those years. DiPompo ranks among the top five in career games played (229), at bats (710), runs scored (119), base hits (221), doubles (41), home runs (16) and RBIs (140).
DiPompo graduated from Towson University in May with a degree in Exercise Science.
