TOWSON, Md. - The Tigers (20-22, 5-7 CAA) will seek their third straight victory Wednesday when the team travels to Delaware State (18-12-1) for a game against the Hornets at 3 p.m.
The Tigers most recently capped a series victory against conference opponent UNC Wilmington over the weekend with a 2-1 victory Sunday at the Tiger Softball Complex.
Junior pitcher Katie Lingmai continued her record-breaking season Sunday against the Seahawks in the victory. Lingmai, who became Towson's all-time strikeout leader earlier this season, pitched her 19th complete game of the year while allowing just one run in seven innings and striking out nine batters. With 41 career victories, Lingmai is tied for the fourth-most in school history.
Lingmai and freshman Missy McCormick have each posted earned run averages under 3.00 this season in the circle for the Tigers, and Lingmai's mark of 2.07 is fourth in the Colonial Athletic Association.
The Towson offense has been given a lift by senior outfielders Brianna Jones and Erika Stasch. Stasch is fourth in the CAA with 31 runs batted in and is second on the Tigers with a .328 batting average, while Jones has set career-highs in home runs (five) and RBI's (25) this season while hitting .288.
Freshman shortstop Hailey Balk has emerged as a potent on-base threat for the Tigers, and her recent 12-game hit streak has coincided with her rise to the top of the CAA with a .388 batting average.
Delaware State enters Wednesday with an 18-12-1 record and boasts four players with batting averages over .300, led by centerfielder Jordan Reid's .391 average.
