RICHMOND, Va. – Junior pitcher Katie Lingmai and freshman shortstop Hailey Balk of Towson University have been named as second team selections on the All-Colonial Athletic Association softball team, it was announced by CAA officials at the conference’s awards banquet Tuesday night. Balk was also selected to the All-Rookie team.

A repeat selection on the All-CAA second team, Lingmai set a Towson single-season record with 203 strikeouts. Lingmai’s 2.40 earned run average was sixth in the league and her 13 wins tied her for third in the CAA. Lingmai threw five shutouts this season, including three straight games against Columbia (twice) and Seton Hall in early March.

Lingmai pitched a career-high 192.2 innings this season, including 23 complete games. The Tigers’ all-time leader in strikeouts, she is the only player in school history with more than 500 strikeouts. Her career total stands at 524. She also ranks fourth in school history with 42 career victories and she is tied for first with 15 career shutouts. Lingmai threw the second no-hitter of her career in Towson’s 2-0 victory on April 7 against Drexel. She joins Jessica Fisher as the only Tigers to throw more than one no-hitter.

The fifth-leading hitter in the CAA with a .350 batting average, Balk put together the second-longest hitting streak in Towson history during her freshman season, hitting safely in 18 games from March 31-to-April 25. She also led the CAA with 15 doubles. Balk had 17 multi-hit games, including a season-high four hits in four at-bats against Howard on April 11.

Balk was named CAA Co-Rookie of the Week on April 16 after batting .786 (11-for-14) in five games. She helped the Tigers to a 4-1 record in that time. A starter in 49 of 51 games, she led the Tigers with 57 base hits. She also scored 24 runs and had 26 runs batted in.

The Tigers finished the season with a 25-30 record, only their second losing season in 14 years.
