TOWSON, Md. - Junior Nyasha Mauchaza (Haverford, Pa./St. George's College) turned in a career performance at The McLaughlin hosted by St. John's University on the Bethpage Park Red Course to earn Colonial Athletic Association Golfer of the Week honors.
Mauchaza led the Tigers to a third place finish in the 18-team field by firing a 2-under par 208 for the 54-hole event. His second round 67 was a collegiate low for him and followed an opening round 69. He closed with a 72 that tied him with two other golfers for first place medalist honors.
The week before The McLaughlin Mauchaza, who is carrying a 3.713 grade point average as a Finance major, finished 62nd in the Maryland Intercollegiate. He improved by 21 strokes.
It was the 10th time in his career Mauchaza has finished first for Towson. It was his second career overall first place finish, having tied for medalist honors in his freshman year against Long Island University.
After two events this fall he is averaging 72.8, third best on the squad.
Towson is back on the course October 10-11 for the Joe Agee Invitational at the Colonial Heritage Golf Club in Williamsburg, Va.
