ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Tigers fell to Navy Wednesday afternoon by a score of 6-1 in a matchup of in-state rivals. Navy improved to 19-1 this season with the victory.
"I was proud of our girls," Towson Head Coach Doug Neagle said. "Navy was the better team today, but we had a good showing."
The Tigers (11-10, 2-2 CAA) got strong efforts from sophomore Nisha Shah and junior Andrea Samlin against the Naval Academy. Shah posted her team-leading 18th singles victory of the season, defeating Stefani Ton 7-5 and 6-1 to earn a point of for Towson.
Samlin was facing an outstanding opponent in singles action, matching up against freshman Gabby Winter, who entered Wednesday with 22 wins this season, just two off the school record. In a tightly contested match, Winter was victorious, 6-3 and 6-3.
However, Samlin paired with Nani Lizana to earn a win in doubles, as the duo defeated Noelle Kaufmann and Erin Snook 8-6.
